What are solar keratoses?

Dr N Raboobee

A solar keratosis is a flat area of redness and scaling on sun exposed parts of the body e.g. face, hands, forearms, in light skinned individuals esp. caucasians. Numerous keratoses may be present in these areas. They are pre-cancerous and may change to squamous cell carcinomas (SCCs) in time. They are treated with liquid nitrogen, Aldara cream, Efudix cream or with photodynamic therapy.
